Other Classes


Joining a performing class does not mean you must perform, however we will be practicing performance formations wherein non-performers will not be placed.  Performing requirements include making or purchasing one costume per year, wearing sandals/dance shoes, and a cover-up for each performance.  Performance fees apply and will vary depending on the performance and requirements. If you are interested in performing, you must first meet the pre-requisites.  Click on the group names below to be taken to their performing page.

AMANI   [ah-MAW-nee]

Saturdays 11:00am-12:00pm

Amani is an Intermediate level performing group, featuring Tradition Egyptian and Fusion styles.  They enjoy a more "hip beat" using Techno and Fusion music to draw in audiences.

AZRA ADARA   [AHZ-ruh ah-DAH-ruh]

Wednesdays 7:30-8:30pm

Azra Adara is a Beginning level Tribal Fusion group.  This is a great group for those just starting out in Tribal Fusion and Urban Tribal dance styles.

Desert Journey Dance Company is a Professional group of the Desert Journey School of Dance.  They perform many of the styles including Traditional, Cabaret, Fusion Improvisational Style, Tribal Fusion, Urban Tribal, and other fusions.  This is a group of Desert Journey teachers.  Please contact Fvorboda for more information.

DRAGOMI   [drah-GAW-mee]

Saturdays 9:00-10:00am

Dragomi is a Professional level group, performing Urban Tribal and Tribal Fusion styles.  Along with creative and unique costuming, Dragomi chooses darker, more alternative and industrial music to complete their presentation.  Dragomi is accepting audition requests to join the group.  Please contact Fvorboda if you are interested in auditioning.

EDEN  [EE-dehn]

Saturdays 10:00-11:00am

Eden is a beginning and intermediate multi-level Traditional Egyptian class with performance optional. No dance experience is needed to participate--you will start learning the basics of Beginning Belly Dance.  Continue with the class for more intermediate moves.  The teacher will work with each student to challenge at the appropriate level.

DJ Improv Style: Electro-Fusion Style (EFS)

Tuesdays 6:30-7:30pm

Desert Journey's improvisational style created by Tiarra in partnership with Desert Journey is performance-optional. Group  improv is a dance style where the dancers learn a "language" together that consists of certain moves and their 'cues'. A leader cues a sequence of moves that the other dancers follow, thereby forming a synchronized dance.

NEPENTHE   [neh-PEHN-thay]

Nepenthe is an Advanced level Tribal Fusion/Urban Tribal performing group, sister to Dragomi.  Nepenthe selects deeper tones and more fusion music to accompany their Urban Tribal and Tribal Fusion style performances.

SAMRUNA    [sahm-ROO-nah]

Mondays 6:00-7:00pm

SAMRUNA, meaning "fusion, integration, unification" is Desert Journey's World Dance Fusion class.  This class will have a very diverse study of world dances as well as a variety of props.  Each Semester will be a new topic. This class is performing-optional.

Ventus is a Beginning/Intermediate Egyptian Fusion performing group, featuring Traditional Egyptian and Cabaret fused with alternative and modern dance.

Xanthera is an Intermediate/Advanced level Dark Tribal Fusion performing group with some Urban Tribal signatures.

Zoraya is an Intermediate/Advanced level Egyptian Cabaret performing group with some Jazz dance fused in for a fun experience.  This is great for Cabaret dancers who would like to perform a classic Egyptian style.
